EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), and any of its offshoots, is considered an energy-based self-help method, one of hundreds, which has gained popularity over the past 25 years or more. In fact energy methods and the like have been applied to numerous alternative and complementary techniques designed to address the body's energy fields in an effort to correct energy imbalances within the body and the general impact on one's emotions, beliefs, and perceptions. The underlying presupposition of EFT is that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system. The belief of EFT is that intense emotions can become trapped in the body, disrupting its energy system thus causing or contributing to physical and emotional symptoms, including unwanted behaviors.

Similar to other "meridian tapping techniques," EFT, Matrix Reimprinting and other energy methods focus on energy pathways, known as a meridian system, identified centuries ago by Chinese physicians. While acupuncture applies needles into specific endpoints along this identified meridian system, acupressure activates these meridian endpoints with finger touch, and EFT activates them with gentle tapping. All of the endpoints used in EFT, and other energy systems are non-invasive.

While these energy methods have proven beneficial and while substantive research has been conducted on EFT for efficacy purposes, they are still considered experimental in nature in Western medicine and the mental health field. Energy methods such as EFT and Matrix Reimprinting are both considered "alternative" and "complementary" in nature and are therefore unlicensed in the United States.

I am not a physician, psychologist, psychotherapist, nor a licensed mental health practitioner. I teach people how to use EFT and other energy methods, including hypnosis as stress relief techniques. I have extensive training in hypnosis and in EFT. I also have training in an offshoot of EFT known as FasterEFT or Emotionally Focused Transformations. Please be advised that the state of Florida neither provides regulation or oversight of my private practice.
